Does eating a slice of cake or drinking a bottle of cold drink make you feel guilty? Does your mind constantly beat you for ‘how you will put on more weight’ if you go to dawaats? Don’t worry, you are not the only one, many around you feel the same way. In fact, according to a study, a shocking 55% of people worldwide suffer mentally due to their struggle with losing weight. Losing weight is a common battle for billions of people around the world. In the last decade, the number of patients struggling with overweight and obesity tripled in Bangladesh. Before talking about weight loss, let’s first explore what causes weight gain. According to a medical journal article, weight gain problems may be related to food habits, sleep cycles, hormones, and genetics. Medical conditions like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and Hypothyroidism are also major causes of weight gain.

People who struggle to lose weight know what problems they face regarding their health: heart attacks, high blood pressure, fatigue, loss of motivation and self-confidence, and depression are some of them. Anika Sarker, a 35-year-old mother of two, who also works outside the home, said about her overweight problem, “I have a dramatic story of how I struggled while losing my weight. When I was in my 20s before my marriage, I never had to struggle with my weight. Just after my first child was born, my weight drastically started to increase.”
